Authentication servers are down. Please try again later, sorry! (Issue on the server)
Hello, neither me or my friends can access my server anymore, have not been a problem for the longest of time and now suddenly we get the error message when we try to access the server: «Authentication servers are down. Please try again later, sorry!»
Message I get from the console
List of things I have tried:
We can join other servers so the issue is on the server.
I have 3 servers and none of them works.
I also use McMyAdmin, but I have also tried by ignoring it and only use Craftbukkit, but that didn’t help.
I have also turned off the Windows firewall, and the issue is still there, so the issue has nothing to do with the firewall.
I have tried to turn off all my anti viruses and my ccleaner, issue is still there.
I have tried to reboot the server 3 times.
I suspect there is something with that I still use 1.8.8 or that my server just out of nowhere started to block the Authentication servers, but then I need to know the IP to fix this issue. I know that happend to few people in the Minecraft version 1.7.2, but I have already allowed their connection to my servers and that didn’t help aswell
Thank you for taking time to read this and hopefully you have a answer for me.
Best regards

One of my friends made a Minecraft Server and all of my friends with Mojang accounts can connect but i can’t connect (I have a Microsoft account).
What is the solution to this?
This is somewhat a common problem. I’ve had this error before. This error means that all Mojang authentication servers are down. So if you have this error, then this means that Mojang is having technical difficulties with their servers. This error can also occur if you are unable to connect to Mojang authentication servers, so a solution to this problem is check your internet connection.

[Solved] «Authentication servers are down. Please try again later». Help?
Okay, I know this has been asked about a lot here, and I’m sorry for another duplicate, but I have not been able to find any fix to this issue what so ever.
Now that that’s out of the way,
Every time I try to join my own server(Hosted on my own network by an old HP 1U rack mount I had laying around) I get the error listed in the thread title. I can connect to minecraft.net perfectly fine from my personal computer AND the server(Via ping and web browser). Ping shows no dropped packets, pings are around 35 MS average, with no crazy spikes or anything like that. I’ve tried connecting to the internal and external IP of the server, yet both yield the same authentication error result. There’s no firewall on the server as far as I can tell, and ports are forwarded(Heck I even DMZ’d the server and my PC for a short amount of time to test, and as usual I same old auth error). The server is running Lubuntu 15.10 64-bit, with Java Runtime Environment 8 downloaded from the Lubuntu software centre.
I’m extremely stumped at this point. I really have no clue what on earth could be wrong. My Insurgency dedicated servers take connections perfectly fine, and the MC authentication servers are most certainly not down(I’m connected to Snapcraft.net as I type this + this issue has been going on for about a week).
A bit of extra details:
Every time I try to connect and get disconnected because of the auth error, it shows me connecting on a different port(Server’s «latest.log» below).
The server worked fine on a 32-bit version of the OS. I recently updated to a 64-bit version because I needed to run some applications that required 64-bit processing. I did a clean reinstall with a complete reformat of the hard drive, so no old files are left over. This error occurs on a brand new install of the Minecraft server as well as the backup I had kept from the previous install.
This happens on any computer I try to connect with, be it Linux or Windows, as well as with friends that are not situated in my LAN.
Launcher Log(Recorded after game start-up, attempted join, and game shutdown):
Thanks for taking the time to read over my post, I hope it wasn’t too long and dragged out(I tried to include anything that might be helpful, so I am sorry for the extremely long page. ). If anyone could lend me a hand with this, I would really appreciate it.

Hello! My name is Bluetap and in this guide I’m going to show you how to fix «The authentication servers are down for maintenance«
During my time of helping people in the badliom client discord server with badlion related issues such as crashing, mod issues, bugs and error messages popping up on their screen. There has been numerous people that had the «The authentication servers are down for maintenance» most of the cases the issues got fixed and in this guide I want to teach you how to fix it. Let’s get right into it. By the way I’m Soriental in discord so if you know me in the badlion discord then hello to you
If you have used mcleaks or thealtening to connect to a server with an alt then this could possibly your issue. Now I will show you step by step on how to fix this issue.
Step 1: Close minecraft
Step 2: Open Mcleaks. Note that If you have deleted Mcleaks then you don’t have to worry because you can download it back and it can still be fixed so if it’s deleted simply download it again.
Step 3: If «Mcleaks» is selected then simply select it back to «Mojang»
Step 4: Open Minecraft and enjoy
Step 1: Close Minecraft
Step 2: Open Thealtening. Note that If you have deleted Thealtening then you don’t have to worry because you can download it back and it can still be fixed so if it’s deleted simply download it again.
Step 3: Same as mcleaks, select mojang instead of thealtening.
Firewalls are known for interfering with Minecraft connections and could give you error messages for example this one.
Step 1: Click on the windows search bar and type «Windows Firewall» and open it
Step 2: On the left side you should see «Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off» click on it
Step 3: Disable both private and public firewall
Step 4: Now try to join a server and see if it works
There is around 3 types of resets you could do on your router to reset it, I will explain them on steps
Type 1: Plug the cable out of the router and wait around 10-20 seconds then plug it back in
Type 2: You can use the On and Off switches. Switch it to off then wait 10-20 seconds then switch it back to On.
Type 3: You can use a paper clip to fit a hole called «reset» or it might only have a hole but no explanation. (Check screenshot)
There could be a chance where authentication servers really are down and to check that visit http://pingserverstatus.com/minecraftauth.php check if it’s down on your location or ask your friends if they are also experiencing this issue.
The thread will soon be updated with more possible solutions.

I’m receiving this message upon attempting to connect to the server. I checked help.mojang.com and the auth servers do not seem to be down.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

I’m receiving the same issues. could you please specify:
and, could you try another instance of minecraft that’s vanilla and see if the error persists? thank you!

I’m using Arch Linux on x86-64, and MultiMC.
parkcitymedia commented Nov 8, 2017 •
Which desktop environment are you using? i tried the multimc instance on XFCE4 and it worked; i also tried it in i3 (gaps), and it didn’t work there. i’m new to i3, but i think it might be an i3 issue if you’re using it.
edit:
could you also let me know which java runtime you’re using?
did you grab the source zip/tar, or did you just get the multimc5 package via pacman/an aur helper?
if you grabbed it from the AUR, try running it with sudo and tell me what happens.
if you grabbed the package from the aur, which version did you get? multimc5, or multimc-git?

I’m not at my computer now but can answer most of those:

Make sure you have a working java ca certs package. One of the recent openjdk versions came with no certs, which is causing issues. It depends on the distro.
