Minecraft: How to Get and Use Blackstone
Blackstone is a new block introduced in the Minecraft 1.16 Nether Update. An alternative to cobblestone, there are several types of blackstone: regular blackstone, polished blackstone, and gilded blackstone. Of course, each has a unique purpose.
Below, we’ll tell you how to find the different blackstone blocks, as well as provide recipes for all of the different items and building materials you can craft using blackstone.
How to Get and Use Blackstone in Minecraft
Regular Blackstone
Regular blackstone can be found in the new basalt deltas biome in the nether. Unlike crying obsidian, which requires a diamond pickaxe or netherite pickaxe to harvest, you can harvest blackstone using a simple wooden pickaxe.
You can also find blocks of regular blackstone inside bastion remnant structures.
Regular blackstone can be used for crafting the following items:

Polished Blackstone
Polished blackstone is slightly harder than regular blackstone, and it looks, well, polished and smooth when you craft it.
You need 4x blackstone for crafting one block of polished blackstone. You can also craft chiseled polished blackstone (which has lines chiseled in it) using 2x blackstone slabs.
Polished blackstone can be used for crafting the following items:

The only way you can obtain gilded blackstone is to mine it at bastion remnant structures. When mined with a pickaxe, it drops gold nuggets.
It’s important to know that mining gilded blackstone my agg piglins, so be on the lookout and keep your guard up while mining.

What are the uses of Gilded Blackstone in Minecraft?
With the latest (relatively) update bringing in a whole new dimension to our favorite game, Minecraft is once more plagued with new ingredients and consequently recipes. In this article, we will cover Gilded Blackstone; what are its uses, and how to get it.
What is Gilded Blackstone
Blackstone is the Nether equivalent to cobblestone which is the most basic building block in the Overworld. In the Nether, however, Blackstone is subdivided into three variants; Blackstone, Polished Blackstone, and Gilded Blackstone.
Gilded Blackstone is only found in the Nether, and primarily in the Bastion remnants. So if you’re looking for Gilded Blackstone, that’s where you start. Unless dropped, Gilded Blackstone will only naturally regenerate in the Bastion remnants.
Uses for Gilded Blackstone
Well, Gilded Blackstone was introduced with the Nether update, but as of yet, there do not seem to be many uses for it. When mined, Gilded Blackstone may drop gold nuggets. However, it may also drop Gilded Blackstone too, which, as far as we can tell, has no real use yet.
Unlike regular Blackstone which can actually be used to craft Polished Blackstone among a host of other things, Gilded Blackstone seems to only be tied to its chance drop of gold nuggets.
Interestingly piglins have been noticed to turn hostile toward the player when they begin mining for Gilded Blackstone.
How to mine Gilded Blackstone
Gilded Blackstone cannot be mined by hand. Well, it can be, but it won’t drop anything. To mine Gilded Blackstone you will need a basic pickaxe. Of course, the mining time will defer depending on the material that the pickaxe is made out of.
When mined with a pickaxe, Gilded Blackstone usually drops itself. However, there is a 10% chance that it may drop 2 to 5 gold nuggets. Similar to mining gravel, an enchanted does increase the chance of Gilded Blackstone dropping gold nuggets. The fortune enchantment that maxes out at level three, progressively increases the chances of a gold drop from Gilded Blackstone.

Spawning
Stonelings spawn rarely in dark caves deep underground. The item they hold will have a random rotation, similar to Item Frame rotation. They only need a 1x1x1 area to spawn in but they need a block light of 5 or less to spawn. They require space in the hostile mob cap to spawn, meaning for best spawn rates, there should be no other hostile mobs to spawn. They will always spawn carrying an item that they will drop when killed.
They are able to spawn on blocks that are under a transparent block, like a slab, unlike other mobs. Blocks underneath a transparent block always have a block light of 0 so if the transparent block is on top the light level requirements are always met. They will be glitched in the transparent block when they spawn. A slab is useful because it prevents other hostile mobs from spawning, and allows the area to be lit up. This is likely an unintended behavior and may be patched.
Using a Heart of Diamond on stone will create a tamed stoneling despite light level and hostile mob cap fill level.

No experience is rewarded when killing one.
Behavior and Appearance
All stonelings are immune to fall damage, projectile damage, and cactus and can breathe underwater. They cannot be pushed by water streams.
When shot with an arrow, the arrow will simply bounce off of the stoneling without causing it damage.
Wild Stonelings
Stonelings are nervous, flighty creatures. If a player approaches too closely without sneaking with an empty hand, they will startle, run away and vanish. When the stoneling vanishes nothing will drop. It is possible to reach and kill a stoneling without sneaking if you are fast enough,
Tamed Stonelings
Using a Heart of Diamond on stone will create a tamed stoneling. You can give them items by shift+right clicking with the item and they will hold them for you. Using the same action when it’s already holding something will swap items with what you are holding. An empty hand will take what it is holding from it. They can hold up to a full stack of an item.
Holding stone and right clicking the stoneling, the will eat it and change texture to complement the texture of stone it was last fed.
