We’ll start off simple, download and install GCFScape.
If you haven’t got the Portal 2 Authoring Tools, get them now.
Once you’ve got all those, BACKUP YOUR PORTAL FOLDER. It is extremely important that you have it backed up, if you screw up, it saves a lot of time. You only need C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal\portal backed up, not the whole game, so if you do back it up, it may look like this: (portal_master can be ignored)
Now that you’ve got all the tools you’ll need, we’ll start doing things.
I quite honestly have no idea why this works. You can play the game of Half Life 2, everything works just fine, there’s sound for everything, and you have a Portal Gun. But you need to have certain files from Lost Coast in a certain place, or else nothing works.
Start off by navagating to your Lost Coast directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Half-Life 2\lostcoast by default) I prefer to open a second window for what you’re about to do, but it’s up to you.
Make a folder called what ever you want (not in the Lost Coast directory) Mine’s «addons».
Copy the folders cfg, downloadlists, maps, and resource from your Lost Coast Directory, into your «addons» folder.
Once that’s done, if you’ve installed the Portal 2 Authoring Kit like you were supposed to, navagate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\bin and find an application called vpk.exe, make a shortcut to that exe, and place in the same directory as your «addons» folder, then drag the «addons» folder onto vpk.exe.
Once you’ve done that, a command prompt window should open for a short time, and when it disappears, you should be left with an «addons».vpk
Copy lostcoast_pak_000.vpk, lostcoast_pak_001.vpk, and lostcoast_pak_dir.vpk to the same directory as «addons».vpk, and then navagate to your Portal/portal folder (the one I told you to backup) and make a new folder called «custom» (this name is important, name it custom), then place the three lostcoast vpks and your addon vpk into custom.
If everything’s been done correctly, your game should look like this if you start it up.
Now we’re going to insert the Half Life 3 Half Life 2 files into Portal for usage.
All that’s going to happen now is we’re going to extract files from HL2’s vpks into Portal’s directory.
Open a hl2 vpk, lets say, hl2_textures_dir.vpk (only open the ones with _dir at the end) right click materials, click extract, and then navagate the horrible interface until you can select C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal\portal, then click okay.
You only have to extract materials from hl2_textures_dir.
From hl2_sound_vo_english_dir, extract the sound folder to Portal\portal
From hl2_sound_misc_dir, extract the sound folder
From hl2_pak_dir, extract the maps folder
And from hl2_misc_ dir, extract the materials and models folders.
, then in the console window type «map d1_trainstation_01» and hit enter, once you’ve got control of Chell, open the console again, type «sv_cheats 1» followed by «give weapon_portalgun» and «upgrade_portalgun» and now you’ve got a Portal Gun. You can play the game normally from here, or type «impulse 101» to get all of the Half-Life 2 weapons. If you have any problems, ask and I’ll try and help out as soon as I can.
*Note, You are the only person who can go though Portals, but everything else (bullets, projectiles, objects, and I think turrets) can.

Crashes, which occurring due to portals do not happen in these games: hl2 and episodes. I recently found, out they happen in hl2mp and cs source, only where i it to anyone never recommend apply. And i see, what you Guest trying to wishful thinking, but still you can not distort the real situation 🙂

When the NPC COmbine shoots at me, my HP doesnt reduce at all, i mean, it’s like godmode,

There is no folder called custom in the hl2 files and plus why don’t you reply to all the other comments that ask how to install. you are an absolute *******

sorry if i sounded like a bitch, i was having a day that day and i took it out on you.
guys i know how to install it extrict it to your half life 2 folder then go to the hl2 folder then click the txt file called gameinfo then find hl2/bin and change it to portal/bin then save it then boot up hl2 then type in console give weapon_portalgun
NOTE doing this will allow you to not take dmg from falling and no airaccelerate
vale you put in it wont change a thing

No just enable DEV console and type sv_cheats 1 then type impulse 101 if this map works fo portal on that will work
yes you do you need half life 2 to actually get the maps and impulse 101 just gives you all the weapons

OMG! this is crazy why the heck i can’t complete the download i tried all the mirrors using Firefox/IDM and when near at 63 percent to complete it sudden stopped :O w0ot! i got tired of 18x keep failing of downloading..
i have a small question- how to install this when i use normal program files folder. without gfcs?/i have all gfcs extracted and normal game normal running

The only problem with this is it could cause glitches if you bipass some triggers. Other than that looks really kewl! Downloading now. 😀

Is this the version that has normal textures?
Also, it appears that Half-LIfe 2 NPCs are unaffected by Portals, and that Portals will crash the game if you use them in Multiplayer. Still, I would like to import the Portal Gun in GMod and in normal Half-Life 2, instead of having to play a seperate Source Mod for it. Same thing for the Gravity Gun in ARGG (lets you rotate objects that you are holding)

could not load libery client
you gotta have steam and you gotta drag the Half life 2 Portal Folder in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/ and then restart steam to make it appear on your games list
Where is the setup file?
there is none just put the Half life 2 Portal Folder in Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/ and then restart steam because if you already have hl2 you will not need the maps when i downloaded it didn’t have the hl2 maps in the maps folder of it but it still loaded up the maps but also if there are missing textures, models, etc. just merge the materials sounds and models folder (if there is a models folder) you usually can merge stuff by using 7-zip and just extracting the folders with the same name into the same directory and it should merge
