Originally started after the bancruptcy of Flagship Studios and the resulting shutdown of the official servers in January 2008 the goal of the Hellgate Revival project was to bring back the multiplayer aspect of Hellgate: London.
While this turned out to be trickier than expected and progress on the original goal was very slow, the project spawned a variety of singleplayer modifications over the years ranging from simple ones like changes to weapon or player stats to overhauls to almost every aspect of the game, including the implementation of fromer subscriber only items, for example the official Revival 1.5b or community mods like Nagahaku or Lost London. Along with these modifications a modding tool called Reanimator was developped and released which let players modify the game to their own likings.
In July/August 2016 a big step was taken and it became apparent this might be the step we’ve been waiting for for so long to bring the multiplayer of Hellgate: London back to live and development on London 2038 started. We’re very thrilled and passionate about this project and want to thank the whole staff for their hard work but also the community which kept Revival alive for many years and still helps with their passion and knowledge.

Hey guys, here are some common questions we are asked about London 2038, the Hellgate Multiplayer Reboot. This is a fan project, not a commercial project! Please take a look and see if your question is answered here, and if not, you can come ask in Discord.
Does this cost money? Is there a cash shop? Or a subscription?
London 2038 will NEVER cost money, will NEVER have anything for purchase, will NEVER have a subscription, will NEVER have a cash shop or money transactions of any kind, PERIOD. This is a passion project for fans, by fans, and has 0 money involved. We are all volunteers, and we want everyone to enjoy the game we remember with out any cost EVER. No one will EVER make money off of this project.
How can I play Hellgate online?
You can’t play yet, but we will let the community know when we need some alpha/beta testers!
What’s the status of the project?

I want to donate! Take my money!
Well, this one isn’t exactly a question, but it is the most common topic in messages I receive. The short answer is: right now we don’t need any donations, but save your money, because we will soon.
The long answer is: there isn’t anything that donations would be spent on right now, and we don’t feel it would be right to take donations at this stage, however we will be reaching a point where there will be hardware/server/license costs—around that point, I will update the community on ways they can contribute towards those ends. This project will NEVER charge money for ANYTHING, but we will have to rely on the kindness of strangers to keep the lights on once the servers are humming along.
I have ideas about what should happen to Hellgate/the content/the project, how can I share my ideas?
You are always welcome to share your ideas in Discord. However, note that the project is still at a VERY early stage, and we have a lot of priorities on our list that can make the game even playable, so awesome ideas about the future will have to be tucked away for a while 🙂
Will I be able to play Hellgate over LAN?
This is something we have discussed, and at some point it may be possible, but our main goal right now is getting the traditional multiplayer server running. I will update the community if LAN becomes viable at some point.
Will this be Hellgate: London or Hellgate: Global? Will it have TCv4 content? What about Tokyo?
The current version we are working on will reflect the state of Hellgate: London multiplayer during the TCv4 patch (Abyss, Stonehenge, etc). However we may be able to retrofit content from Global/Tokyo at some point in the future. Our main focus right now is getting the server working with the data we have.
