Hide and Show Helmet, Hats and Hoods in a Single Click
MCM Menu Toggle and or Hotkey Toggles any Helmet using the Circlet Slot
No More Comparability Patches!
Works with all and any Mod or DLC.
How it works:
Using the MCM Toggle option or Toggle Hot key, will cause the equipped helmet to have it’s head, hair and ear slots removed, leaving the circlet and any other slots in place. The helmet is then «refreshed» through equipping then removing a blank object. When Toggled a second time or unequipped/removed from inventory, the helmet will revert to it’s original slots.
Because of how Skyrim works, this change will effect all helmets in the game that are the same type (for example all iron helmets), but as the helmet must be refreshed to see any changes, you will only see this change if a character wearing the same helmet as you equips an item or is loaded with the same helmet on. (This includes changing weapons or scripts from other mods that equip items such as Dual Sheath Redux.)
Version 2.04
— Circlets now supported
— Added few changes made by Rekol’s updated scripts.
— Removed all biped slots from hidden helmets
— Added safe guard to stop the script from stacking helmet checks to avoid the mod breaking if switching helmets quickly.
It is still possible to break the mod if you hotkey two helmet using the favorites menu and switch between them very quickly while a helmet is hidden.
A clean save will fix the issue.
Version 2.03
— Fixed corrupted edits Thanks to Matortheeternal
— Thanks to LLJKTechnogeek for help with fixing the extra equip sounds bug when equipping armor or weapons.
— Thanks to myztikrice for help fixing the broken release of 2.02
— Helmets properly refresh to there hidden or shown state when loading a save game.
— MCM Menu will now display «Hide (Current Equipped Helmet)» When a helmet is equipped.
— Fixed capitalization in MCM menu.
Fix
— Helmets from other mods that don’t include a circlet slot can now be toggled also
These helmets will still stack when equipped with hidden helmets which only use the circlet slot.
Compatibility
— No more compatibility issues or patches
— Mod is now compatible with all helmet/armor mods and DLCs. (As long as it uses the Circlet Slot)
No Brawl Issues
— Removed ability to toggle NPC helmets(May add back in later)
— No more issues with brawling bugs
Faster and Simpler
— Complete rewrite
— Improved speed when toggling a helmet
— File size greatly reduced
— No updating scripts
Tidy Menu
— Replaced magic spells for MCM Menu
— Toggle Setting
— Change Hot-key Setting
Requires SkyUI and SKSE to be installed
If updating, a clean install is recommended but not required
To access the MCM menu:
— Press Esc
— Mod Configurations

3.02 Release
——————————-
— Disabled Helmet refreshing and toggling while mounted to avoid the horse for some reason flying away.
— Fixed helmets not refreshing if unequipping/equipping and item twice in inventory.
3.01 Release
———————————
— Hopefully fixed any issues with helmet refresh stacking causing helmets to be fixed as hidden.
— Due to this fix, Dual Sheath Redux should work better. I found helmets refreshed correctly 100% of the time for me when delay set to 0.1 in the MCM menu.
Will wait and see if anyone is still having issues or if other bugs can be found before declaring this the full and hopefully final release.
3.0 Test Release
——————————
— Toggling Follower Helmets
— Supports up to 127 followers + Player character.
— Reintroduced Hotkey
— Helmets of the same type can be individually toggled. (If you hide an iron helmet on the player character, it will only be hidden for the player and no other characters wearing the same helmet, unless they have also been set to hidden.)
— Can individually toggle up to 5 different helmets equipped on a single character using the Head, Hair, Long hair, ear or Circlet slots or a combination of slots.
Bugs/Issues:
Mods such as Dual Sheath Redux or any other mods that trigger a NiNodeUpdate can cause helmets to re-appear.
While wearing a hidden helmet, if a helmet with the same slots is equipped, the hidden helmet will not display as being unequipped in the inventory screen unless it is refreshed.
Please make a clean save before upgrading to 3.0
Mod contains no updating scripts. Any possible issues with helmet being stuck as hidden can be fixed by saving, quitting the game and reloading.
Are you fed up surfing Nexus for a mod that lets you A) wear your headgear and B) hide it or see it whenever you feel like it?
Rest easy, traveler. This mod covers it.
Benefits:
— Wear almost any headgear you want (not just vanilla like most/all of the other SSE headgear mods out there)
— Make your headgear visible or invisible at the press of a button
— Receive full armor bonus with no goofy workarounds or caveats
Why should you listen to me?
Because with Mod Organizer and a solid prior save, there is practically no risk involved here. [Did he just say that? Gasp! He must be living in denial!]
Seriously, load it up and test it. Don’t like it? Remove it and load your prior save. All will be well in Tamriel.
I’ve used Helmet Toggle (v 2.02b and 3.02) for years on Oldrim and never had an issue I couldn’t solve by hitting the helmet toggle key again or unequipping/equipping the headgear in question real quick. This was a very rare occurrence. There is the occasional oddball mod that uses an underwear slot to apply headgear to your character and it doesn’t work with this mod. Shocking, I know. I run well over a hundred mods with 30 or 40 equipment mods. I have never had a game corrupted by this mod and I have several characters at levels 30-40 all using this mod.
I have also now successfully converted this to SE via Cathedral and Creation Kit and it is working. I have none of the lag with SkyUI favorite equipment swapping as described in some of the other comments. I suspect many of the issues people are seeing are related to interactions with specific other mods. This is a hazard of modding and can be worked around.
Maybe the mod isn’t for you. But it’s not fair to call a mod broken just because another mod doesn’t play nicely with it. To me, the «risk» is worth it.
