The Smeltery Controller is a machine added by Tinkers’ Construct. Made from Seared Brick, it provides the interface for the Smeltery multiblock structure.

Each smeltery must have one and only one Smeltery Controller. It can be placed anywhere but the floor of the smeltery, which must be a 3×3 grid of Seared Bricks (it’s not so neccessary to always build 3×3 floor, you can build 1×1 floor if you don’t have enough seared bricks, or even 5×5 floor to smelt large amounts of ore). The Smeltery Controller checks for the presence of a properly constructed smeltery, and once completed, it allows the smeltery to be accessed via a right click. From its GUI, the player can insert materials to be smelted and see how much material and Lava remains in the smeltery. The items can be loaded through pipes or Hopper

Overview

All Liquified Materials

The Smeltery is a multi-block structure used in the creation of higher-tier weapons and tools using metal and alloys. It is used to smelt ores, ingots or blocks of almost any metal as well as Obsidian. Alloys include Manyullyn, Bronze, Alumite, Aluminum Brass, and Pig Iron. But beware, if you or other mobs fall into the smeltery while it has liquid in, it causes damage, leaving a layer of blood in the smeltery. This can be used in creating Pig Iron, as well as some alloys added by ExtraTiC. Blood can also be poured into an empty Casting Table to make Congealed Blood. Blood can also be obtained by smelting Rotten Flesh or pushing mobs into the smeltery while it contains a molten liquid. Other liquids can also be obtained in this manner, Horses will give you glue, while Villagers provide Liquified Emerald which is also needed for Pig Iron, and Iron Golems provide Iron.

Materials

The Smeltery is a multi-block construct requiring you to have at least 84 Seared Bricks, or 19 Seared Brick blocks, a Smeltery Controller (not to be confused with a Smeltery Furnace Controller), a seared Tank, and either a Seared Window, or Seared Glass for a single-tiered Smeltery.

As of the 1.7.0 versions, the Smeltery can be any rectangular shape up to 7 blocks per side (not counting corners, as the smeltery does not recognize them).

The largest and smallest Smelteries, as of 1.7.0d1

If you already have access to a Smeltery or are adding additional layers to your own Smeltery Seared Stone may be made and used in place of Seared Brick blocks.

Building

Begin construction by placing a 3×3 base of Seared Bricks. Typical Smeltery construction has the base laid into the ground rather than on top of the ground.

Add walls one layer above the Smeltery base in a 5×5 perimeter. The corners are not necessary for the functioning of the smeltery and may be left out. Any blocks placed in these corners will not count as a component of the Smeltery. (E.g. drains will not function)

To complete the Smeltery, replace two of the wall blocks with a Seared Tank and a Smeltery Controller. The Smeltery Controller should begin glowing, indicating successful Smeltery construction. Right-clicking the Smeltery Controller will allow you to access the Smeltery GUI. Note that you can only have one Smeltery Controller in a smeltery.

You can continue to add layers to your Smeltery walls. Every layer that you add will give you an additional 9 processing slots (9 slots for each 3×3 space inside the smeltery). The smeltery walls can be constructed out of any variety of Seared Brick, Seared Glass, or Seared Windows.

You will also need to add Smeltery Drains and Faucets to your Smeltery. When you place a Smeltery Drain, it does not matter which side the hole faces. If your Smeltery is a 5×5 with no corners, you cannot place the drain in the empty corners; it must be placed in one of the walls. You can place the drains at any level up and down the Smeltery; however, keep in mind that they will require a Casting Basin or Casting Table placed directly underneath the faucet to work. These faucets will also pour into Buildcraft-compatible tanks and pipes. Liquid metal can also be sucked out by a wooden pipe from Buildcraft or fluiducts (formerly known as liquiducts) from Thermal Expansion.

How to use

To use the Smeltery, you must first add some lava to the Seared Tank, Seared Window, or Seared Glass (Either manually by right-clicking with a bucket of Lava or piping it in using Buildcraft compatible pipes). This will heat up the interior of the Smeltery to allow you to process materials. Once your Smeltery has some lava powering it, right-click on the Smeltery Controller to bring up its GUI.

The left side of the GUI shows your processing slots, with 9 slots added for every layer of empty space inside your smeltery.

The middle of the GUI is the storage tank where the liquid metals are stored. This allows you to see how much liquid metal is inside the Smeltery, what kinds of metal, and in what order they will be drained (starting from the bottom). In 1.6+ versions of TiC, you can change the order by clicking on the desired liquid. (unsupported in 1.5 versions)

The bar along the right side of the GUI is how much lava the Smeltery currently has left. Having less lava means the ores heat up slower. No lava prevents any smelting from occurring.

To use the liquid metal, you must drain the liquid into a Casting Basin or a Casting Table. Place a Seared Faucet onto the small hole on a Smeltery Drain, and place a Casting Basin or Casting Table underneath the drain. To activate the Faucet, right-click on it. A Casting Basin will allow you to create blocks. Metal blocks require 9 ingots, but other smeltable materials, like Obsidian or Glass and Sand, require the same amount of material that was placed into the smeltery. The Casting Table will allow you to create casts out of Aluminum Brass or Gold to create other metal items using the casts you have previously made.

Storing your liquid metals

If you want to keep your metals aside for later, or if you have less than 1 ingot in the Smeltery and would like to save it, place a tank below the Seared Faucet, or hook up a Buildcraft-compatible pipe to the Smeltery drain, and you can pull your molten metals out into a tank for later use.

(However, if you have half an ingot of certain metals, you may find it simpler to either just cast a tool rod of that material and then smelt it down later, or to pour it into a basin and breaking the basin for easy clearing of your smeltery)

To get your metals back into the tank, you must pipe the liquid back into the smeltery. The only methods available with just Tinker’s Construct is detailed below:

Satherian Method: Place a Casting Channel on the Smeltery Drain, then the tank you want to drain out of will be placed one block up and one block over. The faucet is then placed on the tank and above the channel. [Note: using this only allows for one ingot to be transferred at a time]

ThermX Method: Remove one of the top ring blocks of the Smeltery, and replace it with a drain facing up. The tank is then placed one block away and the faucet on the tank, over the drain.

Using these, it’s possible to create a temporary storage buffer.

Construction [ ]

The smeltery is a multiblock structure, and it requires a few different kinds of blocks. First of all, every part of the smeltery must be constructed out of seared blocks or the blocks listed below. The most common type of seared block is Seared Bricks, which is crafted out of 4 Seared Brick (can be obtained by smelting Grout). Another common building material for smelteries is Seared Glass, which allows for easy viewing of liquids within the smeltery.

The smeltery can have an internal area ranging from 1×1 to 11×11 and can be any height with a minimum of 1.

Structure [ ]

The smeltery is a cuboid structure, and it must be enclosed by a floor and 4 walls. No ceiling is required. The larger you make your smeltery, the more items it will be able to smelt at one time and the more liquid it will be able to store. For that reason, it is recommended to start out with a fairly large smeltery.

Smeltery Controller [ ]

Every smeltery requires a smeltery controller. Smeltery Controllers allow for control of the smeltery, allowing the player to input materials and change the order of liquids in the smeltery. This is important because the liquid in the bottom of the smeltery will be the first one to come out of the drain.

Seared Tank / Seared Gauge / Seared Window [ ]

These blocks serve as fuel tanks of the smeltery. The smeltery can be fueled by various liquids, the most common of which is lava. Simply right click on one of these blocks with a bucket of lava to fill them. Each block can store 4 buckets of liquid, but you can include multiple copies of these blocks in your smeltery.

Smeltery Drain [ ]

The smeltery drain allows the player to empty the smeltery of its contents. The smeltery drain has 1 input side and 5 output sided. The input side (the one with the large hole) should face the inside of the smeltery. Explanations on how to use the drain can be found in the sections below.

Smelting Items [ ]

Many items, such as ores and ingots, can be smelted down in the smeltery to create liquid versions of themselves. For example, iron ore can be smelted into 1 ingot’s worth of molten iron. The speed of smelting is determined by the type of fuel used. Each fuel has a temperature rating. The higher the temperature rating, the quicker the smelting occurs. Fuel temperature ratings can be found in a table below

Alloying [ ]

Some materials can be combined as liquids within the smeltery to create new materials. This process is called alloying. To provide an example of how this works, let’s say you want to create some Aluminum Brass. If you look up the recipe for Molten Aluminum Brass in JEI and check the Alloying tab, you can see that it can be created with a combination of 3 parts Molten Aluminum and 1 part Molten Copper. So, place any multiple of 3 Aluminum Ore and 1 Copper Ore into the smeltery and allow them to smelt. Once the ores are melted, they will begin to combine, and over a short period of time, they will convert from aluminum and copper to straight-up Aluminum Brass. Note that materials will alloy within the smeltery whether you want them to or not, so be wary of placing materials that can alloy within the smeltery if you don’t wish to create any alloys.

Casting [ ]

The smeltery can be used to cast molten materials into items. To do this, attach a Seared Faucet to one of the output sides of one of the smeltery’s Smeltery Drains. Then, directly beneath the Seared Faucet, place a Casting Table or Casting Basin. Casting Tables allow the player to create smaller items, like ingots and tool parts, while the Casting Basin allows for the easy creation of solid blocks.

The first items you will need to create by casting are the casts themselves. One-time use casts can be made of Clay, or permanent casts can be made from Gold, Brass, or Aluminum Brass (Aluminum Brass is the cheapest way to make casts). So, begin by acquiring one of these liquids in your smeltery. Then create a setup that allows you to drain liquid from your smeltery to a Casting Table. Now, let’s say you want to make a cast for a Pickaxe Head. First, create a cheap pickaxe head in your Part Builder, probably a stone or wooden one. Then right-click the Casting Table with the Pickaxe Head in your hand to place the head on the Casting Table. Now, use the Smeltery Controller to make sure that your cast material (probably Clay or Aluminum Brass) is in the bottom of your smeltery. Finally, right-click the Seared Faucet to pour your material into the Casting Table. If all has been done correctly, the material will pour into the table, surrounding the pickaxe head, and will cool down to reveal a Pickaxe Head Cast. This can be removed with a right-click of the Casting Table.

Now, whenever you want to create a pickaxe head, simply place the Pickaxe Head Cast in the Casting Table, and pour the desired pickaxe head material into the cast. This same process can be repeated for ingots, other tool parts, gears, plates, etc. Recipes for casts and cast items can be found in JEI.

To create blocks, simply place a Casting Basin under the Seared Faucet and make sure that you have at least 9 ingots worth of your molten metal on the bottom of your smeltery. Then, simply click the faucet, let the metal fill the basin, and wait for it to cool. Once it is cooled, simply right-click the basin to receive your block.

Smeltery Fuels [ ]

Lava is the most early-game source of fuel. Other good fuel sources include Blazing Pyrotheum, which can be found in pools in the nether, and Neutron Fluid, which is the highest temperature fuel source possible.

The Smeltery is used to melt down ores and metals to be used in casting or creating Alloys. When smelting raw ore, 2 ingots will be produced from the ore, while a typical furnace would only yield 1.

Construction Steps [ ]

Step 1. Place the 3×3 ground layer of Seared Bricks. This is the first layer. It’s easiest to just sink this into the ground so that it’s flat with the surface around it. The rest of the Smeltery will be built above this point.

Step 1:The dirt blocks are shown as reference for the size of the 3×3 base of Seared Bricks

Step 2 Part 2: The second layer of the Smeltery is completed. Note that the Smeltery Controller is burning and the 3×3 space in the middle remains intact.

Step 3. Build the third layer. You may use any combination of bricks to do this, but you must include a Smeltery Drain (and Seared Faucet and Casting Table or Casting Basin) so you can draw the molten metal out of the Smeltery.

Step 3: A mostly completed Smeltery design using mostly Seared Windows. The Smeltery Drain is missing a Seared Faucet and Casting Table or Casting Basin.

Step 4. Add lava to the Seared Tank by right-clicking the tank with a Lava Bucket. The tank can hold four buckets worth of lava(4000mb).

Если у контроллера зажглось маленькое окошечко, это значит, что вы всё сделали правильно.

Чтобы использовать плавильню, нужно залить в цистерну лаву и положить нужные для переплавки руды, слитки, блоки, а также литейные формы в контроллер или вручную скинуть в плавильню. Также можно переплавлять поврежденные руды, а также пыли из сторонних модов (например, Thermal Expansion или Ex Nihilo). После того, как вы положите то, что вам нужно в плавильню, плавильня начнет нагреваться и переплавит содержимое в жидкость. Переплавлять можно: слитки, руды, блоки. После того, как металлы переплавятся, их можно залить в литейные формы или в металлургический бассейн.

Сплавы [ ]

В зависимости от количества ресурсов требуемых для создания сплава получится определённое количество сплава (например, для алюминиевой латуни нужно 3 алюминия и 1 медь в итоге мы получим 4 алюминиевой латуни). Различные сплавы отличаются прочностью, модификаторами и некоторыми другими характеристиками. Некоторые сплавы используются не только для инструментов (например алюминиевая латунь нужна для создания литейных форм). Среди всех материалов самым быстрым является Кобальт. Самым прочным Манулин.

NOTE: The Seared Faucet, Casting Table, and Casting Basin are not required to build the smeltery. They are added later to be able to use the molten metal inside the Smeltery.

Decoration Blocks [ edit ]

Glass [ edit ]

These clear blocks can hold liquids, and can be used in place of the Seared Tank, or for the walls of the smeltery.

Seared Blocks [ edit ]

These opaque blocks can be used in place of Seared Bricks blocks for the walls or floor.

Assembly [ edit ]

Note: The smeltery CAN have a larger (or smaller) base, such as 5×5 (or 1×1) base with 5×5 space above it clear. Same rules as above will apply.

Note: the Smeltery Controller will not activate if placed in a corner. It doesn’t have to be at the bottom layer though.

While no other blocks can be used in the construction of the smeltery itself (e.g. you cannot use Glass or Clear Glass in the walls, and cannot use Seared Glass in the floor), the blocks outside of the smeltery (e.g. the corners) can be freely filled in with materials of your choosing, provided the space in the middle of the smeltery is left open.

You will know that the structure has completed successfully when the controller lights up similar to an active furnace. Note that it will remain lit as long as the smeltery is functional, even if it’s out of lava or not smelting.

You will also have to fill the tanks with fuel, the most common one is Lava, but Blazing Pyrotheum can burn hotter, and makes it possible to smelt Glowstone, it is also 4 times as fast smelting things compared to Lava.

The Smeltery and You Automation

Smeltery Controller

The Smeltery Controller is a machine added by Tinkers’ Construct. Made from Seared Brick, it provides the interface for the Smeltery multiblock structure.

Each smeltery must have one and only one Smeltery Controller. It can be placed anywhere but the floor of the smeltery, which must be a 3×3 grid of Seared Bricks (it’s not so neccessary to always build 3×3 floor, you can build 1×1 floor if you don’t have enough seared bricks, or even 5×5 floor to smelt large amounts of ore). The Smeltery Controller checks for the presence of a properly constructed smeltery, and once completed, it allows the smeltery to be accessed via a right click. From its GUI, the player can insert materials to be smelted and see how much material and Lava remains in the smeltery. The items can be loaded through pipes or Hopper

Automation [ edit ]

Smelteries are relatively intuitive to automate. Items can be piped directly into the Smeltery controller, whereupon they will immediately begin smelting. The Smeltery Tank accepts Liquid Pipes and can be hooked up to a tank containing lava to keep it full. And Smeltery Drains accept liquid pipes for input and output of liquid metal (used without a faucet; if using liquiducts, the liquiduct will need to be in extract mode).

Casting Basins will accept molten liquid from liquid pipes and turn the molten liquid into blocks, which can then be extracted using hoppers or BuildCraft pipes (or alternate transport systems of your choice).

Note: Placing any type of import bus from Applied Energetics on the underside of the basin/casting Table works as well.

A Redstone clock can be used to extract large amounts of ingots (and blocks) from a Smeltery. To do so place the clock in any of the 6 spaces that are directly ‘touching’ the Smeltery’s Seared Faucet and the usual Casting Table with Ingot Cast below the Faucet. Placing a Hopper below the Casting Table will suck the ingots out. Connect a chest to the hopper for extra Storage space. A Casting Basin can also be used but the set up will pour metal into the Basin even if there isn’t enough material in the Smeltery for a whole block. A lever on the clock can be used to deactivate the automatic pouring.
