Middle Earth at War mod for Mount & Blade: Warband
Middle Earth at War
Mount & Blade: Warband mod | Released Sep 2019
Middle Earth at War is a Lord of the Rings singleplayer sandbox Mod for Warband. It is mostly a visual overhaul of Native and includes entire middle earth with the main factions.
Is this mod something for me?
If you want to play a campaign through middle earth with the fellowship, doing your own quests and taking part in the story of middle earth, then you better keep looking. You certainly will not experience that here.
But if you want to smash a few orcs with a huge army of elves or conquer the whole world with the help of Isengard, whether good or evil, then you are in the right place. As in Native in Middle Earth at War there are no fixed alliances and you can join each faction and fight as you wish.
Update about the progress of the mod
I’ve begun making the mod from scratch, almost ground zero. There were simply way too many issues, plus now, I’ve started with a base of Diplomacy, with a newer module system and lots of minor mods (like formations and custom commander) added to the base. Fortunately, I have all the items collected, so that speeds things up considerably.
The above was from 11/4. Some days after, I am please to announce that:
I have (at-fucking-last)managed to make a completely new base for the mod. I started with Diplomacy, added the Formations and AI, a lot of mini-mods and scripts I collected and worked on over the years etc. Finished the races (humans, elves, dwarves, nazgul/undead, orcs, goblins, uruks, uruk-hai, trolls and hobbits etc.), finished the campaign map and also finished with the «big» factions. Those are:
Gondor, Rohan, Mordor, Harad, Rhun, Imladris, Lorien, Greenwood, Misty Mt. Orcs, Dale, Dwarves, Eriador and Isengard. Some have a lot of towns (like Gondor), some only one or two. Other mini-factions will be added, like the Beornings etc. or custom parties, too.
Most of the other stuff I did are coding and bug-fixing, I doubt there will be much interest to you guys.
——————————————
The above mean one thing: the mod development can now start in earnest. I have a lot of resources at my disposal, for items etc. and I am not bad at re-texturing or even simple modelling and model editing. I can do the coding etc.
But I need help in many areas. The more help I have, the sooner the mod will be released and made better.
So, if you’d like to help, I need most of all:
— Scene makers, and
— People to work on dialogues, companions etc.
The first is beyond me, mostly. The second I can do with easiness (it’s the basic level of modding) but it takes time I could use elsewhere.
Discord Antonis meant it. I really, really need your help. The reason that I haven’t kept the older version scenes is simple: while they were excellent, among the most detailed scene I have ever seen in M&B, that was their problem. The game lagged in mine and the testers’ PCs, because of the detail and amount of scene props that existed in them.
The Future of Middle-Earth at War
I know, it’s a way too serious and heavy title. Still, it is fitting, as this article will give you guys some insight to what the mod has gone through.
The Beta version of Middle Earth at War is finally released and I want to talk about what’s coming next.
Troops
Here is an overview of all troops available.
Elven Scenes
I made the Scenes for the elves. Unfortunately I could hardly find building for it.

I know that it’s not 100% complete, but all important things are done. Some «no battlemap» scenes and most text stuff, marriage system ect. isn’t overhauled so far, but since this is not relevant for the gameplay and the release is overdue, I decided to leave it for now. Some wanted gamemechanics may not work. Please keep in mind this is the first beta version. If you find any bugs, gliches, false/strange or missing textures or other unwanted things feel free to report.
Information for Modders/Permission:
I allow to use everything I have created. That contains everything except the models, sounds and music. I have not created any of these, so if you want to use them, ask their creators. I can not give you any permission. If you want to do a submod, overhaul ect. you can download the module_systems folder.

Middle Earth at War is a mod for Mount & Blade: Warband, created by EasteIing.
Its just a visual overhaul of native with nice looking LOTR models from other mods, there are no big changes in the scrips.
What is allready done:
Orcs of Misty Mountains
Singleplayer map of Middle Earth
Weapons and armors for most factions
Unit trees for every faction
Multiplayer equipment for players and bots
LOTR music in game
improve some textures that are not good yet
equipment/race for dwarves (no cool armors ect. atm :-/ )
Town scenes like Minas Tirith, Helms Deep ect. (for single- and multiplayer)
Mordor gets a more «dark» sand
heroes like aragorn, witch king as kings and counts
fixing smaller things like orc skins, trolls, banners, music/sounds
changing dialogs and other text stuff
What is NOT planned:
non human races playable
Mumakil (i have no programming skills :'(, i would love to see them like in «The Veiled Stars» mod preview, but this mod is dead)
big changes in script like missions, events.
In general, it will be very similar to native gameplay, but with LOTR feeling:)
To install: extract into „. MountBlade Warband\Modules” and activate in game’s launcher.

Posted by Antonis9 on Aug 9th, 2020
So, hello, guys and gals!
I am Antonis, author of (between other things) the Sword and the Axe and Fires of War mods. Some months ago, in March 2020, to be exact, I contacted Easterling to ask his permission to continue this mod, as the world and the works of Tolkien are a passion of mine and a sandbox, single-player mod taking place in Middle-Earth was one of my dream projects. He, very graciously accepted.
So, what happened during those months, from March to August.
Simply put, I divided my time between my rl work and my other mods, this one included. What I did, and have finished now, is fixing almost all the coding errors. From my tests, I cannot find any game-breaking or otherwise bugs. Among other things:
a) races were properly implemented (Humans, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and Uruks),
b) the race bug of regarding any non-human race as a female is fixed,
c) Dwarves work properly now,
d) the scenes also were fixed (in the existing module system, the transitions between scenes were bugged),
e) all item entries were examined, fixed and tested to be as ‘realistic’ as they can be in this fantasy setting,
f) the race skeletons were fixed (using the ones from TLD)
etc.
Also, a couple of basic new features were added, like:
a) correct regional recruitment (different troop trees for unique places, like Dol Amroth troop tree or Dunlanders only in their region),
b) the option for the player to start as a member of each different race (Human, Elf, Dwarf or Orc) is added
c) new weather model, with different skyboxes for each hour of the day,
and some other minor ones, mainly ‘unseen’ coding bits.
What is ready?
A plethora of things, actually. Easterling has made a solid base for the mod, added all the large factions, made their banners, added items and the basic mechanics and made some scenes. All the troops for the basic troop trees are in the mod, some of the unique ones, as well.
What remains to be done and how?
A lot.
— All troops will have to be re-examined and edited;
— many of the items will be replaced, due to them being either too high-poly (which tends to lower performance) or will be replaced by better quality models.
— New features will be added, most of them ready and waiting.
— The map will eventually be changed to a very detailed one that was generously given to me by Eärendil_Ardamírë, made by NPC99, if I am not mistaken. This map change is for the future, but still worth mentioning.
— Dialogues and new companions will have to be written.
— Testing should be done extensively and bugs will have to be fixed, if and when found.
Is this mod going to continue being a sandbox type or will it have a story?
This mod has been started as a sandbox and it will remain so. There will be (and there are already) basic alliances, Good factions vs. Evil factions, but generally, the player will be able to do as he/she pleases. There won’t be a story, but there will be new quests, although taken as «side quests», mainly locating artefacts, defeating unique enemies etc. This mod will not be another version of the great The Last Days mod.
What can you do to help and develop the mod further?
I am essentially an one-man team. I need help in a lot of areas, but most importantly, I am looking for someone to help with the dialogues and design the companions and ‘pretenders’ for the mod. Also, I am looking for a 3d modeller and a scene maker. Not a lot of things are required, for either of those fields, but they are important, nonetheless.
