the «missing executables» error is because AVG has deleted a file that gmod is looking for (the harmful file AVG mentions) and can’t run without.
The «content files locked» error is basically as your computer tries to download the file, AVG is also scanning it and locks it from the pc whilst it does so.
step 1: disable AVG temporarily.
you can dissble AVG by opening the protection menu and clicking the «settings»or «options» button in the top right corner. on this menu, click «advanced settings». In these settings, click the «temporarily disable AVG» option and choose how long to disable it for. IT IS IMPORTANT to click «ok» once this is done or else
AVG won’t be disabled.
step 2: download gmod.
download gmod as you usually would (don’t worry if «missing executables» pops up the first time, it will work the second time) and it will download as normal.
step 3: delete gmod game cache.
open up files and go to whichever drive your steam folder is on( for me it was G:/ drive) and open your steam folder. click the other folder that will appear once you open the steam folder and there you will see a list of more folders. There you will find one called «common», open this up. There you will find folders for all of your applications in your library, find and open «Garry’s mod». In there you will find a folder named «cache». Right click and delete this folder.
step 4: verify cache
Go into your steam library and right click gmod, then click the option at the bottom of the menu called «properties». Once the window opens. Click the third option along the top named «verification of game properties» (or something along those lines) and click the bottom option named «verify game cache». Let this verification run and complete.
You should now be able to play gmod hassle-free!

Every time I try to join any multiplayer server, I will download the lua files, then it will say » Starting Lua » but never really start. Then when I try to connect again it will say » Requesting [2 or 19] Lua files then get stuck. It seems like my GMOD REFUSES to download specifically 2 or 19 lua files in every server. Some times I might somehow get through without downloading those Lua files but once again, it will get stuck on » Starting Lua «
(Please keep in mind if I attempted to wait for it to load on Starting Lua or Requesting Server files my gmod will just time out while loading and I will be back to server menu. It will never load on Requesting Lua files and will very rarely load on Starting Lua. )
And even if I do manage to connect to the server, I will instantly time out at spawn then lose connection to the server after the timer ends. Example : https://imgur.com/a/pYG5d2e

Here is the whole list of things I have tried

— Every launch option that people have been saying online, including client ports.

— Complete reinstall of gmod (Files left behind also deleted with the actual game itself)

— Loading into map single player before hand
— Windows Compatibility mode on Windows 7

When I try to connect to a server it takes IMMENSELY LONG. Then when I eventually do spawn in a server I’m auto-disconnected almost every single time. Does someone know a solution? If so I’d like to be advised of it. x_x
Edit: I got a graphics card back in 2018 and I never had a problem with «WARNING: Connection Problem Auto-Disconnect» since.
How do you validate the files exactly?
Right click game in steam => Properties => Local files tab => «Verify integrity of game files»
It will then start a download (the check portion) and then after tell you via a steam popup if any files were needed to download.

I hot-fixed my issue by unsubbing to ALL subscriptions, uninstall gmod (double check in the drive dont miss a single file), reinstall, Go to options in game in «multiplayer» and select «no custom files download» or «map files only» then download that servers workshop manually. (not a perfect fix but it works)
Still timing out. (ffs) It’s worth mentioning that upon entering the server I get a message saying «Something is creating script errors.» As well as it takes only 30 seconds to time out. (As if I’ve already been on the server for a while before even connecting.) It shouldn’t have anything to do with my computer which has 2 terabytes of space.
One other thing you an try is my «hotfix» i did. Fixed everything but HUD graphics are now glitched downloading any other files from the server corrupts Gmod again.

Once you have copied all the files, close GCFScape and head over to the root directory of your garrys mod folder. Enter the ‘materials’ folder and then create a new folder called ‘console’, making sure you type it exactly how I did, just without the apostrophes. Firstly, you need to give your thread a good title, telling us the exact problem, think of it as a brief explanation of your problem.
E.G: My game is crashing when I get to the facepunch logo.
Pasting any error messages into the title is not the best idea, as if the error is extremely long, then it can be a bit obnoxious. It’s best to put the errors inside the thread, or maybe in a pastebin if the error is large in terms of length. This helps other people find the issue they can find it in google search and if there is a fix within the thread, they can find it. This helps cut down on duplicate threads.

Secondly, you need to tell us in depth about your issue and some other vital information which will be covered in this section.
You need to tell us what your issue is, when it happens, what happens when it happens and if there are any messages that are created by the issue, if there is any message generated.
