2. Where To Put The Tool
The tool goes in the same folder as the “RivalsofAether.exe”. In Windows this can be found at: “C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rivals of Aether”. Depending on the build of Windows, «Program Files» may be named «Program Files (x86)».
3. Opening The tool
Windows detects this as an unsigned executable file. Web browsers will ask whether to discard the file or not, and Windows SmartScreen Filter will try to prevent you from running the file. Click «More Info > Run Anyway» if this occurs. This prompt will not show up again in the future when opening the Mod Tool.
4. Ripping Sprites/Audio Files
To rip sprites/audio, simply press the big buttons labeled accordingly!. The tool will automatically detect the offsets (location in memory) of the sprites or audio in the game, and then extract each file into a «Sprites» or an «Audio» folder respectively within the «Rivals of Aether» folder. In the sprites or audio folders, you will find a messy list of all of the extracted sprites from the game. Every time the game updates, you must extract sprites again before creating mods, since the order of sprites will be all jumbled up!
Note: This will overwrite any previously installed mods you have in the sprites folder. Make sure to back up these files manually before updating with the tool!
5. Edit! Replace!
Using your preferred tool for editing, you can now edit sprites to your heart’s content. I recommend having the game open to reference sprites or sounds when figuring out what in the sprite sheets or audio files needs to be replaced with something else. To replace sprites or audio in-game, make sure to close out of RivalsofAether.exe, open up the Rivals Modding Tool, and click “Replace Sprites” or “Replace Audio” to implement your edited sprites/audio.
Note 2: The total sum of file sizes for your audio/sprite rip mod must be equal to or less than the original size of the rip, or else the tool will prompt you with an error.
