Midspace’s Ship Speed 300 mod (skybox friendly)

A max ship speed mod with a difference. It is custom skybox friendly.
You can use it with any Skybox.
It does not modify the Environment.sbc file, so any custom environment settings are safe.

Maximum Small and Large ship speed are set to 300 m/s.

@Screaming Angels: well your welcome to a ship and world thats affected. (the COnfigable works till you get it on a DS) then it seems to not load the same speed for everyone. its a 90% of the time kinda bug. I have reported it, but as with most speed mod bugs.. answer is normaly «game not ment to go that fast».. anyway i will post something with a ship in. since there was not a fix this week for anything, i will assume it should be the same when you test it. DS is down atm. my friend is getting new HDD for it, but soon as it back up you would be welcome to join us on there with admin powers to see the effects your self.

@Dark Heart : which version of SE are you using?
There was a bug in the game for quite a while, causing ships to lose control above 200 m/s.
If you are using the older versin of the game, then my 200 m/s speed mods should be fine.

If you are using the latest version of SE, then it is possible that the game bug wasn’t entirely squished.
Is it possible to have a look at a blueprint of one of the ships you have that is affected?

I’m curious, what is the reason you can’t use the configurable speed mod?

Speed of Light mod

This mod allows you to go 300 000 000M/s in the game with both small and large ships.
Note: The actual speed you can reach varies per machine, some people reported they weren’t able to go past 1,000,000m/s but others reported speeds as high as 1,600,000m/s.

No, you can’t reach that speed on any normal machine, but you can go a lot faster than you think; just look at the screenshots, I’m flying at 420KM/s. Rendered on an i5 4570S + HD6970.

1000M/s is very doable, no issues.

8 000M/s asteroids fly at you at about the same pace as the ‘stars’ screensaver in win 95.

at 25 000M/s the engine starts to have issues keeping up and you’ll get UPS drops.

at 30 000M/s+ asteroids will mostly be spawning behind you, but hiccups aside you can fly pretty smoothly.

at 400 000M/s FPS is alright, but UPS completely freezes, making the game stall, probably as I’m flying through asteroids before they’re even spawned.

For comparison:
1000M/s / 1KM/s = Mach 2.93 = 3600KM/h
400KM/s = Mach 1175 = 1440 000KM/h = 0.0013C (speed of light)

Note that colissions will start behaving strangely above certain speeds, e.g you will fly through things without or minimal damage.
This is due to the fact that the engine only updates at 60 «UPS» or (physics) Updates Per Second. That means that if a colission takes shorter than 1/60th of a second (

16,667ms), it won’t be registered or things will act strangely.
That is, in ideal conditions, as usually on more full servers or even singleplayer your UPS will be lower than 60. Additionally Havok tries to compensate for aforementioned issues, so the issue is more complex than just that simple math, but the root of the problem stays the same.
If you press CTRL+H you get a little graph that shows a bunch of things among «UPS», that’s the physics framerate. More detailed info can be found in CTRL+F11.

On the bright side, after you reach about 30KM/s, most ships will pass through asteroids without damage, so it’s a little bit like flying at warp speed 🙂

Midspace’s Configurable Max Ship Speed Mod [EOL]

This is the ship speed mod to end all ship speed mods.

1. Subscribe.
2. Add to game world.
3. Start your game (and join your game if it is a server).
4. Set your maximum ship speeds by use an in game chat command (press Enter to get chat console).
examples:
/configspeed LargeShipSpeed 850
/configspeed SmallShipSpeed 420

5. Save your game.
6. Reload (single/multiplayer) or Restart (dedicated server) your game.
7. Enjoy the new maximum speeds.

Maximum Ship Speeds can only be set from 1 to 150,000,000 m/s.
Unfortunately I believe the Havok engine has been limited to 999,999 m/s, so this may be the maximum you will see displayed.

* Missile Speeds have been limited from 1 to 600 m/s. (This may be changed upon review later if the game supports higher speeds for these sized objects.)
* The MissileMin must always be less than or equal to MissileMax.
* Missile launch speeds are *absolute* not relative. It does not matter what speed or direction the ship is travelling at, the missile when fired will launch at the specified launch speed (MissileMin).

* AutoPilot will still restrict the speed of the ship based on the thrusters available.
* AutoPilot speed limits cannot be set individually for Large and Small ships, so it can display ranges that do not match your Large Ship Maximum or Small Ship Maximum.
* AutoPilot maximum limit settings in existing RemoteControl cubes, if they have an existing high value, they *will* be reset if you change to a lower value when saving and restarting.

* The game limits a player character’s maximum flying speed based on the Character Definition in the Characters.sbc file. It is taken from the largest value of either MaxSprintSpeed, MaxRunSpeed and MaxBackrunSpeed. It is used as a boost speed above the speed of a grid. As MaxSprintSpeed is the largest at 10, you will see a 10m/s increase.
The Female and Male characters also have individual maximum speeds.

If you are running a server, you can force a save with the hidden command «+save».
Once you have saved your game, you must restart it immediately, otherwise any players that join during this time may experience unusual sync issues with the maximum speed. (At this stage I have only observed the GUI displaying unusual numbers).

@kodi4444: The problem is with the collector blocks. They have a phomtom physics object that cannot move faster than 200 m/s.
If you remove the Collector block (or modded block that inherits from the Collector block) from your ship, it should be fine.
