Installing mods for Empire at War (Revised 12/17) tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to correctly install and launch a mod for Empire at war or the Forces of Corruption expansion.

I. Installing your mod

(Note that some mods come with their own proprietary installers, such as Republic At War. In such cases, you should refer to the readme file included with that mod for information on how to install it. In any case, if your mod comes with a readme file, read it!)

Extract whatever is in your downloaded archive and drag it into your Mods folder. Once you have done that, you can create your own shortcut as a batch file or download a mod launcher. If you have a Steam copy, skip to section II.

Ia. Creating your own mod shortcut for FOC or EAW

While in the main FOC game directory, create a notepad file and paste the following command line within

swfoc MODPATH=Mods\mod folder name

For Empire at War, put the mod files in your EAW mods directory. Then in the notepad paste

sweaw MODPATH=Mods\mod folder name

Save it as a .bat file. For the sake of simplicity you should give the batch file the same name as the Mod it is for. It’s worth noting you can rename a particular mods folder to whatever you want, so long as the command line referencing it has the same name.

After saving, you’ll notice a new file in your directory in addition to the original text document that you just created. You can delete the text file as we only need the batch file. You can create as many batch files as you need depending on how many mods you have. You should keep them in your EAW/FOC directory. I recommend creating a short cut to the batch file itself, or your game directory.

Ib. Using a Mod Launcher

There are many mod launchers out there available for download. They essentially recognize and compile all of your mods into a comprehensive list, so you can just pick one and launch it immediately. I personally don’t like using them. Your mileage may vary. A cursory google search will net you some results.

II. Launching mods with Steam

Instead of making a .bat file, simply right click the game in your steam library. Go to [Properties]. Under the general tab, click [SET LAUNCH OPTIONS. ] Paste in one of the following command lines, depending on which game your mod is for.

sweaw MODPATH=Mods\mod folder name

swfoc MODPATH=Mods\mod folder name

You’ll notice these are the same command lines used in batch files for manual shortcuts. After that, simply close the window and pick whether to launch eaw or foc.

What NOT to do

NEVER use the Data folder contained within any download mod to overwrite your game directory. Mods all use the games base files to run, and overwriting these files can create all sorts of interesting bugs and glitches. You wont be able to launch other mods unless you do a clean install. In some cases the game itself won’t even work properly.

If you dont have keys with your game, you can find some here.

These keys are legitimate, but are used by many so unless you buy a new copy don’t plan on playing multiplayer.

Нас ждала по-настоящему удивительная и увлекательная стратегия в реальном времени, совмещающая в себе как глобальный стратегический режим, так и тактический в стиле Dawn of War и одновременно Homeworld 2. Помимо сюжетных миссий нас ждал ещё и режим Галактического Завоевания, больше похожий на глобальную кампанию Total War. Нам давались несколько глобальных карт, на которых разворачивалось тотальное противостояние Повстанцев и Империи. Победа доставалась тому, кто либо захватывал ключевые миры, либо полностью выпиливал вражескую фракцию.

Помимо Империи и Повстанцев на карте присутствовали ещё и неиграбельные фракции, вроде Синдиката «Чёрного Солнца» и Хаттского Картеля. Захват планет происходил двумя способами. Вначале нужно сокрушить космическую оборону противника, а потом только провести десантирование и зачистить от врага. Давалось и супероружие вроде ковровых бомбометаний и самой Звезды Смерти.

В 2006 году Petroglyph создала и своеобразный аддон для Empire at War — Forces of Corruption. Решили пойти по стопам Battle for Middle-Earth 2 и внедрить особенную фракцию в кампанию, разработав специальную сюжетную линию. Третьей фракцией стал Синдикат Тайбера Занна, также известный как Консорциум. В основном лоре Star Wars Синдикат Занна являлся не слишком примечательной преступной организацией, которая действовала тихо и исподтишка. В игре же её превратили едва ли не в глобальную угрозу для всей Галактики. Синдикат обзавёлся мандалорской техникой и кораблями, а также получил хорошую армию из фоллинцев, викуэйских пиратов и колдуний Датомира. До сих пор популярностью пользуется именно аддон к Empire at War, а не оригинальная игра 2005 года. Естественно для этих игр существует и поддержка модов. Лучшие из них вы найдете чуть ниже.

Установка модов

Для Empire at War и Forces of Corruption создано почти бесчисленное количество модификаций. Однако их установка поначалу выглядела очень муторной и долгой. Нужно было создавать некоторые папки в корневой директории, впихивать файлы того или иного мода, а затем уже создавать ярлык, в котором прописывать целую криптограмму. Тысячи игроков мучились днями и ночами. Однако вскоре всё изменилось…

Один из кодеров сумел создать отличный и надёжный Mod Launcher, который раз в двадцать облегчает установку дополнений. Достаточно просто скачать этот лаунчер, скопировать в корневую папку игры (желательно FoC), затем скачать нужный мод, поместить в папку Mods и просто запустить лаунчер. Модов на EaW и FoC можно ставить едва ли не сотню одновременно. Ни одна из модификаций не конфликтует друг с другом. Через лаунчер можно запускать хоть двадцать пять модов, в том числе и оригинал игры. На данный момент это — одна из самых надёжных программ для Empire at War. Скачать её можно с зелёной панели.

Mod Launcher is a app for Star Wars: Empire At War, created BertHunter.

The newest mod launcher for ‘Star Wars: Empire at War’ and it’s Addon ‘Forces of Corruption’. Currently the only ModLauncher that works with the STEAM & retail version of the games.

# Launches the Steam or Retail version of «Star Wars: Empire at War» or

«Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption» with or without mods.

# Lists all found modifactions at the main launcher page. (Steam & Retail)

# Temporarily moves all files found in a subfolder of a modification called «Data_main» to the game’s DATA folder while playing this mod.

(This was coded so that modded AIs or special custom maps do not interfere with other mods and the actual game folders stay clean.) (Steam & Retail)

ModLauncher: How does the «Data_main» feature work?

— The mod creators or you can create a new folder inside a mod’s folder and name it «Data_main».

Everytime you start the mod using the launcher, all files inside «Data_main» will be moved to the Data folder of the game, while preserving folder structure.

If a file with the same name is already found inside the game’s «Data» folder, it will be moved to a backup folder.

Once the the game closes, everything will be moved back.

Why is every ingame string saying [MISSING]?

— You probably started a mod which is not yet translated to your game’s language. Try changing the language at the main launcher page.

If you do not have the appropiate language files and have no way to download them you can always rename the mods «\Data\Text\MasterTextFile_***.dat» to a language name you have the files for (although some soundfiles may not be working).

(e.g. «MasterTextFile_ENGLISH.dat» to «MasterTextFile_ITALIAN.dat»)

I do have a fresh and fully patched EaW/FoC installed, why can’t I play online with a steam user?

— You have to install the official RAM&Lobby; fix as well. (This launcher is shipped with it and will ask you to install the fix if not found.)

If you installed mod files directly into your game’s main folder instead of using this launcher’s ‘Data_main’ feature, you have to back up and delete those files.

You should also back up and delete all your savegames, as some saved mod information tend to screw things up.

Why can’t I save my game?

— If you get a error message from EaW/FoC while trying to save a game (e.g. «Failed to save game. Check available disk space.»), it is most likley because EaW/FoC does not have write access to the save game folder, or your Windows username may have a not recognized symbol in it.

No write access: Find your game executables (sweaw.exe/swfoc.exe) with a click on the [?] button at the main launcher page.

Navigate to their locations using the windows explorer, right click the executable and select «Properties». Go to «Compatibilty» and select «Run this program as an administrator».

Do this for both executables and saving should work again.

Symbols in username: Either rename yours or add another user just to play EaW.

III) Useful Parameters:

Make a shortcut of this launcher and add one or more variables after the last quotation mark in the target field.

-Steam=»true» This will force Steam mode. Useful if Steam detection fails or you installed EaW using a hardlink or junction.

-Steam=»false» This will disable Steam mode.

-SteamWait=»0-999″ The launcher will wait this long in seconds for the Steam game to start, before showing error message «nsProcess::603». Default is 60 seconds.

-DoRestart=»true» The launcher will be shown again after starting EaW/FoC/MapEditor.

-DataMain=»false» The «Data_main» feature will not be used.

-Windowed=»true» The starts in window-mode.

-EaWModStart=»MyModFolderName» Launches a existing EaW mod without ever seeing the GUI. «» launches unmodified EaW.

-FoCModStart=»MyModFolderName» Launches a existing FoC mod without ever seeing the GUI. «» launches unmodified FoC.

— Steam asks you again which game version (EaW/FoC) to start if the Steam GUI is not yet started. Unfortunately this can not be prevented.

The good news is that it does not matter what you click: the launcher will control which game and mod to start.

—> Just select your prefered language by clicking on one of the flag icons. If your language-flag is not available, just rename/delete other language files (only MasterTextFile_***.DAT is needed to be renamed/deleted) manual in your game’s Data\Text folder.

— A message window (nsProcess::***) will be shown if your operating system is not supported by this program, or Steam took too long to start the game.

If it shows ‘nsProcess::603’ you can adjust the wait time with the parameter «SteamWait» and please do not close the message window until you are done playing the game.

Republic at War is a total conversion modification for Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption. The mod replaces the Empire with the Galactic Republic and the Rebel Alliance with the Confederacy. Republic at War focuses heavily on the theatrical films but also contains content from the Clone Wars cartoon series as well as the expanded universe. Players can re-enact various Clone War campaigns such as the Outer Rim Sieges. Players will have the choice to fight as either the CIS or the Republic and wage war for control of the galaxy. Realism is key and players will have unprecedented control over how and where they fight. Push forward with an entire clone legion such as the 501st or 212th or overwhelm your opponent with a seemingly endless number of B1 battledroids. The choice is yours. There are also a number of expansions planned that will add new (as well as polish existing) content.

My save will not load for the CIS on the from the ashes GC. the game crashes whenever I attempt to load. It is very early game so it should be stable correct?

Never mind,i was not using the launcher and was trying to load my Raw GC on the clone was mod XD

For me, the A.I. never does anything except defend itself, on every game mode at every difficulty. Even at hard I just run over all of their forces and they never even build any units or upgrade their tech level. Also, another issue; when I select a group of units to attack an enemy building, many of the units will not attack unless I manually move them closer. Often, Jedi will not attack even if they are right next to the building. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

hey, i need help
i use the launcher and its working for a while, it detects the mod, but i leave it for about 30 minutes, and i believe there is an error or something that i don’t remember, so i close the error and the launcher automatically close as well, i run Republic at War using my previous shortcut, but the splash screen is Forces of Corruption and it turns white and crash to desktop

and the next time i open the launcher it fails to detect the mod but the mod files is still there
and i can’t use the launcher to delete the mod
right now I’m trying the installer, any help would be appreciated

For AI fix. PLace launcher in the Corruption folder then launch it. It may say that you don’t have the updated launcher(atleast it did with me) If that is the case then just run the update for the launcher itself. Then, run the check and it should automatically update the AI. Took me a while to figure this out.

There’s 6 different RaW files listed with a comment section each, + general comment section + comment sections on each update message. I have stopped watching them all except the general section and latest news.

It sounds like you started the «From the Ashes» Galactic Conquest where you do start with one planet.

I don’t know why you can’t edit XML files, if the are there on your computer you should be able to edit them with an appropriate program for it.

If something is missing or is broken make a clean install or use the launcher and check for issues.

Hi, i heard that the problem with the A.I could be fixed with the r.a.w launcher, but when i try to run it from the f.o.c foulder, it doesn´t charge and an error message shows up: «Could not get data from: Raworganize.com». Someone knows what i have to do? I would be very gratefull.

PD: english is not my native language, so if I made a mistake in writing something, it is because I am not fully fluent in it.
